Ideas about ongoing monitoring of internet status
2020.09.27 20:38 ronkj Ideas about ongoing monitoring of internet status
This is not the best place to ask but it's a start.
I have the three node Orbi system from Costco RBR750 router + two RBS750. It seems to be ok but seeing some inconsistent performance. That might be my ISO Spectrum, hard to say.
I am looking for a program that can maintain a log of ongoing test results on some schedule so I have a way to see patterns in the data.
I do not have any Macs but can use W10 or Android or iOS iPad or iPhone.
Suggestions welcome. Also what subreddit might be more appropriate?

2020.09.26 01:29 Squackward Strange Problem with network on Windows 10 PC resulting in a short moments of no data sent or received
For background I am running a windows 10 on my pc (latest) with a tp-link AC600 Archer t2u plus network adaptor (latest driver).
I have an issue where my network cuts out for a few seconds (1 - 3 seconds) and comes back after that and lasts another 40 - 60 seconds and cuts out and repeats the process again. Screenshot of network data
This causes my voice calls to just stop for a few seconds and in games it just freezes me for a few seconds until the network comes back. As far as I know I do not disconnect from the actual wifi network. This problem is uniquely affecting this computer in the household. None of the other computers experience this issue. Thinking it was my wifi adaptor, I switched it out today for a new one but the problem persisted so it does not seem to be an adaptor issue. Things I have tried
- Reinstalling drivers
- Removing the ability for windows to turn of the network adaptor to save power
- Switching the network adaptor
I have an orbi router but again this problem does not seem to be replicated on any other computer on the network.
Any ideas on what I should do to fix this. I have been trying unsuccessfully for almost 3 months to fix this issue. Before 3 months ago it worked without issues. (No clue what changed).

2020.09.25 22:35 ihearthorror1 Orbi 4G LTE Router with ???
Hey there! I'm just starting to figure stuff out and I recently came across the Orbi 4G LTE Advanced Tri-band Router (more info here
It's unlocked and although it does NOT allow SPrint cards, it does take sims from T-mobile, ATT, Verizon, and "other major 4G LTE Service Providers"
I'd be using it for primary internet (one person household, working from home) so I'm trying to find a data plan that would work.
None of the Verizon/ATT/Tmobile home rural LTE internet or "fixed internet" options work for my scenario & location, I've already looked into those.
- If I were to get the Orbi 4g LTE router, I'm wondering if Visible would work with it.
- I'd be open to Trifecta and Viper (or others you can recommend) also if they allow you to bring your own device. I've sent them emails asking and am waiting for a response.
- If a reseller plan comes with a device, is it possible that I can just use the Orbi with their sim instead - or is it more complicated than that?

2020.09.21 20:25 IndyMark007 Way to identify bandwidth hogs?
I installed a RBK50 earlier this year and performance has been stellar to date with lots of devices connected. However, I'm looking for a way to identify which of my devices are using the most internet bandwidth to hopefully figure out how to stop bumping up against our ISP data usage caps. Is there a way to do this with the Orbi or even with alternate hardware/software if Orbi can't do it?

2020.09.16 18:19 ronkj Wi-Fi voice -- how well does it work on Visible?
A friend has sorta weak verizon coverage plus his mobile home reduces signal level. My proposed solution: get him a Pixel 4a and hope that when he's at home he can get reliable phone calling over WiFi.
He has Spectrum so decent bandwidth. also plan to upgrade router to an Orbi mesh system (sold at Costco). I recently installed Orbi at my home me and it works well. A nice touch: satellites can be connected via Ethernet if needed.
If you have experience with Visible and WiFi voice especially using Pixel it would be great to have real world data. The alternative to Visible might be Spectrum Mobile another Verizon MVNO.

2020.09.09 00:55 JDeo_89 Rate my build Healing and killing Anaconda
Build Information As of 2020, the most uptodate Killing and chilling build is the Kleios **(**https://s.orbis.zone/8rf4) plase let me know what you think.
Let’s start off with its name, the Kleios (Klei-os), taken from science fiction, is a part of a set of other Kleios. When they come together, they form a great destroyer also known as a world eater. This name seemed befitting of a build that brings other ships together dominating a conflict zone. Motivation The Kelios was built over several innovations In an effort to make things easier for new players.
The first iteration, Kelios Alpha
, was commissioned and innovated by the minds of the BPMC. CMD Tiron.gamer was the chief engineer along with CMDs Rodanris and a third commander. Together, they innovated plans, created by Rinzler 070707
, from over two years ago. The plans originally called for a Cutter. After critically looking at this Cutter, fighting CZs, it was found that the Kelios Alpha
was superior within the measures of hardpoint DPS and lack of grind along with reduced excess. As we go on further considerations will be discussed that transformed the Kelios Alpha
into the Kleios
Keep in mind, the Kelios Alpha
is a build intended to minimize engineering and to be given to a new player. There is also a Kelios Beta
, but this was built before carriers came into being and was slated for Thargoid use with unpredictable success. Hard Points & Ship Consideration Of the three big ships, Cutter, Corvette, and Anaconda, the Anaconda yields the greatest kC DPS.
Keep in mind, the KC build calles for pulse lasers as offensive weaponry. During combat, within the CZ, the formation locks ships in place negating mobility concerns. Additionally, the Cutter and the Corvett are equal as there are no turreted class 4 weapons. Finally, one huge hardpoint is reserved for a class 4 beam laser with regenerative sequence. The Math and logic test below compares the DPS outputs for and optimized Anaconda and Cutter. The DPS values for the two ships are represented by their maximum weapon sizes.
Math and logic test:
let A_d = dps of the optimized Anaconda and let IC_d = dps of the optimized Imperial Cutter;
Null hypothesis: A_d - IC_d = D_o
if D_o = 0; ship preference is up to commander
if D_o > 0; Anaconda is a better ship choice due to greater DPS
if D_o < 0; Imperial Cutter is a better ship choice due to greater DPS
Solving the above equation: A_d - IC_d
A_d - IC_d = (3L + 2M + 2S) - ( 2L + 2M + 2S), values are weapons sizes with respect to hard point load out, and this equals 1L or one large hardpoint valued at ~9.5 dps for pulse lasers. This indicates D_o > 0; or the Anaconda is a better ship choice due to greater DPS.
We further tinkered with the hard points and found it prudent to preserve the class for healing laser and then scaled the others to include one turreted burst laser and six turreted pulse lasers. The burst laser is what it is, where it is, and engineered the way it is due to its location on the ship and time to depletion. It's on the bottom supported by the two small lasers. The same follows for the two large pulse lasers. Finally, the last four lasers, two med and two small, are in accordance with Rinzler 070707's build. The phasing sequence experimental was removed as the lasers strip shields quickly without it and this way we avoid the damage reduction. Utility The Kleios's shields were optimized by theD2A CMDrs Toolbox shield tester.
Thank you for D2A for creating it. Certain conditions within the CZs would push the shields of the Rinzler 070707 build to the breaking point. This would end in catastrophe as the Kleios
is meant to have an infinite shield. To combat this, I used your tool and found the best shield configuration for 200 dps in all damage types. while this may not be realistic, the new shields allow commanders to break the healing pattern and achieve other sub objectives like targeting spec ops and then folding back into formation. Additionally, A long range wake scanner was added to capture wake data after the CZ ended with little need to move the Anaconda. Optionals Still an ever evolving piece here are the static portions.
The 7 B collector is a must as the large lasers, the most likely to kill, can do so at about 3 km meaning we need the reach. The shields were discussed in the previous section. The 6 D fighter hanger is not a must, but is a great creature comfort if one would like to level up their fighter quickly and passively. The six, five, five, and four cargo racks are up for debate. It was found that at most 40 limpets are needed per CZ so having 144 is excessive. One might think about putting in a fuel scoop and an fsd booster in the place of cargo racks. The 5 B collector is optional as it makes close materials faster to collect, but these limpets are often out ranged and end up hanging out or killed by point defense. The 4 D hull and shield reinforcements fit the military slots and add a bit more padding to the ship. Finally, the assist computers are a creature comfort, they fit the slots, and take a cognitive load off of commanders who find it hard to land large ships especially after many CZs. Core Only the distributor is mandatory, all other modules scale to fit the build.
The distributor must be charge enhanced grade 5 with super conduits because this allows the hard points to have an infinity time to depletion. The armor is seldom used and only received damage from phasing shots. The powerplant, thrusters, FSD, and life support are all scalable as one progresses from the Kelios Alpha
to the Kleios
. Just remember, the more power ones has the more things they can run. The better thrusters equate to more maneuverability though it's not needed. The greater FSD means they can jump further, but this is gimped due to fleet carriers. and the life support is useless if the shields fail. I didn't touch the fuel tank. Finally, the 8 A long range sensors are a strong recommendation, not a necessity, as they allow the commander to see far off wakes after the battle has concluded.

2020.09.04 17:58 jusp_ Which is best, Network segmentation, or VLAN, for SOHO network?
I have the following devices/equipment:
- Video doorbell
- Game consoles (DLNA enabled)
- AV Receiver (DLNA enabled)
- Smart TVs (DLNA enabled)
- Synology NAS (DLNA enabled)
- Workgroup AIO Printers
- Smart phones and tablets
- Helm email server
- 3 unmanaged switches
- ASUS Routers
- Netgear Orbi
- EdgeRouter X
Which approach is best, and what additional equipment will I need to do the following:
- Keep the cameras from the rest of the network but still allow access via their respective apps from anywhere
- Keep the wife's devices separate from everything else but allowing ability to access the printers and get internet access
- Allow the DLNA enabled stuff to talk to the Synology NAS
- Helm email server gets internet access, no need for anything else to access internally
- My devices to be able to access everything for management and regular use
Is the above possible, and as I asked earlier in the post, what additional equipment will I possibly need?
Networking is not my forte, but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I'm just concerned that doing it wrong will expose my network/data

2020.08.31 17:35 KZ_KZ_KZ 2020 New Explorer's Getting Started Guide
This sub seems to be missing a basic guide to help give new explorers some confidence as they journey out. For comparison, Eliteminers
has an outstanding wiki. So I thought I'd start a guide here, having done a long 32,000ly trip in the base game with a cheap 2mil cr ship and now running around in an engineered, ultra long-range, exploring ship. Welcome! It's a BIG Galaxy!
I am glad you're interested in exploring the massive, mostly accurate Elite: Dangerous "Milky Way" galaxy. There's still over 99.95%
of it completely unexplored! Get out into the black with us fellow explorers and see what's out there! Frequently Asked Questions on this sub:
Getting Started - Outfitting
- What is this obvious clustepattern of stars? They are usually real-life star clusters that have been procedure-generated when the in-game galaxy was populated. This creates an obvious line or cylinder pattern in these clusters. If you want a closer look, see if there is an NGC numbered sector in that direction in your galaxy map and jump towards it.
- Where should I sell my cartographic data on return? You can use this data strategically to rank up engineers, ally with factions to unlock system permits, or ally with factions to unlock more missions with them (maybe for Federation, Imperial or Alliance rank).
- How do I record or see where I've been? The game actually records all this in your journals, which 3rd party tools can read from your hard drive. The one I use while exploring is EDDiscovery. It has a very useful "Estimated Values" box that can quickly tell you what bodies are worth in a system you just scanned.
If you want to, you can explore in virtually any ship, but here are must haves:
IMPORTANT: Remember to filter your galaxy map by scoopable star classes: K-G-B-F-O-A-M or O-B-A-F-G-K-M!
- Fuel Scoop - there aren't stations out there to refuel you, so you'll have to get used to fueling from a star. I like to fit the biggest class, C-rated Fuel Scoop the ship will take as that's a good mix of refuel time and price, but that's just me.
And that's it, really. You can go exploring as long as you have a Fuel Scoop. But here are some really important things to bring:
- Detailed Surface Scanner - so you can at least map interesting planets you come across and be a lot richer when you get back. (BTW, Full Spectrum Scanner is now included in all ships, in case you're reading really old guides). This visual guide of scan values should give you an idea. Also available in table form of scan values (btw "FD means First Discovery").
- At least 25ly jump range - this allows you to go most directions from the bubble without getting into areas too sparse for you to cross. Coriolis.io or edsy.org are good places to play with loadouts.
- Automatic Field Maintenance Unit - we all make mistakes and hit a star's exclusion zone or a planet.... more than once. This will get any heavily damaged modules back up and running. Again, I find a big C- or D-rated unit has a good price/performance ratio, but you may want to max this out if you are worried about repair (you can also carry material to synthesize refills... easier with Horizons). Remember to turn these off until you need them in the Modules tab to save fuel.
Good to haves:
- Shield Generator - the lightest one you can fit for any "bumps" along the way. ie. hard landings/dockings, or other objects you encounter.
- over 40ly jump range - This will get you most places from the bubble. Useful "best possible" builds here: Jump range comparison
- Heat Sink Launcher - for when you're stuck in the exclusion zone and can't get out without overheating, but optional if you have lots of AFMS and can take the heat damage.
- SRV (Horizons Only) - to land on planets for fun / view / mat collection / feature exploration
- Repair Limpet Controller + cargo bays - to repair hull damage
- Second AFMS - to repair the first one if it gets damaged
- Ship-Launched Fighters - for fun flying around surfaces or space objects
- Materials for FSD Injection - Convert raw materials into extra boost range
- Fit the smallest possible Power Distributor and turn it off - you won't need anything but 4 pips to engines.
- D-rate just about everything else except the FSD.
- A high efficiency, A-rated power plant helps with heat management while close to stars.
Suggested Builds: u/KZ_KZ_KZ
's 1 Million Cr Starter Hauler u/DarthHM
's 18 Million Cr Diamondback Explorer
You'll also see Asp Explorers and Krait Phantoms as popular exploration ships, but these are the builds we recommend for those just starting out.
Getting Started - Procedure
There's no need to rush while exploring, but the things you may want to do when you arrive at a brand new system are:
- Do not crash into the star's exclusion zone
- Scoop fuel
- Send the FSS ping/honk
- Scan the system in FSS. Either searching for high value bodies, points of interest, or just scanning everything.
- Travel to and DSS whatever you want (I suggest looking for Earth-Like Worlds, and anything terraformable)
- Land and explore whatever you want
- Check out the system map
For more details, here is u/Vuelhering
's very good FSS and DSS Tutorial
Getting Started - Where To Go
If you're brand new to this and it's your first trip away from home, try a short, 100ly "Road to Riches
" loop. This will keep you in the bubble, make you some money, and allow you to practise the above, all within a short jump of a full-service station. You won't be making any First Discoveries on this trip.
If you want to unlock engineers and get your 5000ly, I like to recommend new explorers plot a route that includes deep space outposts
or distant asteroid bases so they can repair if needed and feel like they have a rest stop. They are often in interesting nebulae too so you can also enjoy the view and get a taste for what's out there. You also probably won't be making many first discoveries until you get over 700-1000ly out, depending on the route you plotted.
If you want to hit more undiscovered systems, plot a zig-zag route towards your destination and go a few hundred ly above/below the bubble before heading out.
Lastly, if you are lazy/lucky, hitch a ride on a Fleet Carrier like I did and just get off way out in the black!
That's all from me for now. Let me know if I missed anything - I'm welcome to feedback to this so we can give these new explorers a good resource. Otherwise, in the words of the omnipotent Q
, "see you... out there!"
edit 1: added SLFs, thanks u/francoise-appledelhi
edit 2: added a couple build suggestions; added go above/below bubble, thanks u/That_Jay_Money

2020.08.30 22:18 thankyourob Tracking Data Usage on Network?
Any recommendations for tracking what’s eating up all my bandwidth?
Here’s the scenario... we’ve got Xfinity, great speed with allotted 1229 GB data per month. (This used to be 1024GB, but they upped it a couple months ago) ...either way, since the start of the pandemic, we’ve gone over on our limit EVERY month. Our house has Apple TV’s, iPads, cell phones, I was working from home but have returned to the office about 2 months ago, my wife has been working from home since the start though and she’s got her work desktop/IP phone. I’d really like to find what the culprit here is. We’ve never gone over, prior to all this...and this last month (August) has been the worst overage where they’re actually going to bill us for the overage.
I run an Ubuntu Linux server with Plex, it’s all local but always on/running. Is there a solid network monitoring app out there that anyone would recommend that runs on Linux? Something that breaks down which devices are hogging the bandwidth? We’ve got a Netgear Orbi router and it seems the Adv Tomato/Tomato types are not compatible with the Orbi, or am I wrong on that? I’m also not keen on tampering with the router and potentially hosing up my network.
Thanks for any tips!

2020.08.30 22:07 Randomassusername999 RBS750 and PS4 Pro
Ok to skip the obvious replies, I have already followed Netgear's "solution" of making some settings adjustments to CTS/RTS, my Orbi is already setup as an Access Point , and my PS4 Pro wifi was working just fine on my now unplugged Nighthawk router. So, here's the issue...
The PS4 Pro connects to the SSID, obtains an IP address, then fails the connectivity check.
The PS4 Pro connects, passes all checks, and then drops the connection altogether, failing NAT and therefore not doing anything. If I reset the PS4 Pro, it's a 50/50 if it will connect to the internet.
But when I connect the system to the Orbi via Ethernet cable, there are zero issues.
I can't have 15ft of Ethernet running across the room, or I would just leave it alone. I need to connect via WiFi.
What am I missing that's different between the Orbi and my previous Nighthawk that worked out of the box with no settings adjustments (other than the obvious change to Access Point from Router mode)? UPDATE
- WiFi connection to Orbi got an IP, but no internet. DNS errors were the most common.
- Ethernet connection to Orbi worked.
- WiFi connection to Orbi, via a Nighthawk X8 as an Access Point worked.
- Reserving an IP did not work (not sustainable even if it did, due to the Double NAT problem router mode outside the U-Verse Gateway would cause).
- Restricting the PS4 Pro to 5GHz (or 2.4GHz) didn't work.
- Manual settings to try to address DNS errors did not work.
So the final solution was to upgrade my U-verse gateway to one that is 5Ghz capable, then lock it down so it doesn't broadcast the SSID, and the PS4 is the only thing that can connect to it via WiFi. It's a stupid solution, and there isn't any solid explanation I have found for why the console connects and works flawlessly on all
other WiFi APs, and through an ethernet
connection to Orbi, but NOT
via WiFi to Orbi.
How Orbi can NOT pass data through the WiFi connection to what is just an I.P. and MAC address as far as it's concerned, but gladly passes data through a wired solution to that same device is mind boggling.

2020.08.24 00:04 -Axle- Advice for Mesh WiFi with Hardwired Backhaul Using "Green" Switches
This question won't just apply to Orbi but I'm hoping someone knowledgeable will be able to help.
I gather that the Orbi has trouble using a hardwired backhaul if there's any switches in between that use "Green" features. A few questions:
1.) While the "Green" switches can cause issues, has anyone gotten a hardwired backhaul to work while also using green switches anyways? (I know there's a lot of complaints, just not clear how many may be successful despite the use of green switches, if any)
2.) Why can't Orbi just issue a FW upgrade that keeps the link between the Orbi units at full bandwidth with dummy data until it actually needs to use it. That would seem like the easiest way to defeat the "green" features in a switch that may interfere by going into lower power states.
3.) I haven't noticed issues with other brands having the same issue (Eero, Google Wifi, etc.). Is this unique to Orbi, or is it that the other brands are not as popular or that they've actually figured something out that Orbi hasn't?
4.) Since I have several "green" switches deployed, having to replace them would increase my cost, effectively negating any "deal" I'm getting on the Orbi. Is there any alternative brand(s) people recommend that they know work without issues behind "green" switches for a hardwired backhaul?
Update #1: I setup an RBK50 (RBR50 and RBS50 connected behind 2 switches, a D-Link DGS1016-A and a DGS-1008G, both are "Green" and both are gigabit). The RBS50 initially registered as a "Wired" backhaul but then after using it for about 15-20 minutes, it showed that it was a 2.4Ghz connection, then a 5Ghz connection (so not using the wired backhaul). Then about 10-15 minutes later, it reverted back to a "Wired" backhaul. This was all without me doing anything other than checking. So maybe it takes some time to adjust or maybe it will be inconsistent. I'm going to monitor and will report back any findings as I keep using it over the next few days/weeks.
Update #2: So the whole system has been pretty solid on a wired backhaul for a couple of days now despite being connected with 2 Green Switches in between the Router (RBR50) and Satellite (RBS50) (see update #1 for models). I've had no drops back to a wireless backhaul other than the initial one mentioned in update #1. I conducted various "walkthrough" tests throughout to see how the transition between the router and satellite was happening. While the transitions were "ok", there were still quite a few instances where the WiFi was lost or there would be a noticeable suspension in throughput (so the transition wasn't great). Nothing that was catastrophic, but annoying nonetheless. I've today made one change and disabled "Fast Roaming" under the Advanced Options as I suspected that may be the culprit based on my observation when I initially turned it on as well as comments from others. That one change has drastically improved the transitions from the router and satellite, which is counter intuitive to what you'd expect. For example, if I'm getting a decent 200-300mpbs connection when I walk around now (with "Fast Roaming" off), I'll get down to about 50-70mbps and it will switch to the better AP and ramp back up to 200-300mbps territory. Where as before (with "Fast Roaming" on), it would need to get down to about 2-10mbps before it would make the transition, if at all. I'm curious if "Fast Roaming" requires more AP saturation in order to work effectively or maybe it's not designed for just 2 within a home. Whatever the case may be, that is my observation in my setup. One last item I'll re-emphasize is the need to let the system settle in, even after re-booting. I noticed all sorts of odd behaviour if I tried to test the system right after rebooting (i.e. right after the reboot progress bar ends and the router webpage is responding again). I found that you have to wait a good ~10 minutes after rebooting before you try to do any meaningful tests as otherwise there seems to be some subsystems that don't seem to be engaged or ready to participate yet. FWIW. I'll post one more update over the next few days/weeks to mention anything else
TLDR: Wired backhaul CAN work with "green" switches but clearly YMMV. In my case, it's been pretty uneventful with respect to the wired backhaul. On official firmware V220.127.116.11.

2020.08.19 18:17 hello_im_adam Difficulty with ESP8266-01 WiFi serial transceivers
I am trying to help a customer who has 100 ESP8266-01 WiFi serial transceivers all connected to one AP AC Pro. Some of the units connect fine and transmit data, others connect but do not transmit data, some connect for a while then fall off... The serial transceivers are hardcoded with their static IP and SSID/Password so no changes can be made on the client-side. I have turned off the 5G radio, messed around with channels/power, enabled legacy support, changed the DTIM period to 3. The site previously had an Orbi router that would work well for about 6 weeks, then need to be factory-reset for it to work again. The customer (understandably) is wanting something more reliable... Suggestions on what else to try?

2020.08.18 19:45 redditguysays How do I determine what is eating upload data on my home wifi?
I got a notice from Cox that I've reached 75% of monthly my data cap (1.25TB) in just 16 days. Typically, we use about 400GB of data/month. Last month that jumped to 600GB, and this month we're already at 900GB, so I assume something changed towards the end of July that precipitated this jump in usage.
I've downloaded TCPView and Wireshark. TCPView is nice in that I can sort by bytes sent and see those numbers changing, but once that process ends, it disappears from the list. It makes seeing cumulative usage for a process difficult. I've installed it on all our computers, but nothing is really jumping out as a culprit.
I also downloaded Wireshark, but it's leagues beyond my level of expertise.
We have a Netgear Orbi mesh system (RBR50 router and RBS50 satellites). I saw a post from 2018 indicating Orbi firmware was causing issues, but the latest Orbi firmware appears to be from April, which pre-dates my problems.
Any suggestions for tracking this down?
We were in the process of upgrading our COX internet service to the Ultimate 500 tier, which comes with a Cox modem/router. I set that up yesterday, because it tracks data usage by device. Here's what I've discovered about data usage since 6pm yesterday:
Work laptop used 43% of data, all while not "in use" by me.
Wife's iPhone used 21% of data, 2/3 at 11pm when she was browsing, and the rest at 3am.
Home desktop used 7%, almost primarily at 10pm, while not "in use" by me.
1 Sonos device used 7%, all at 11pm, while not in use. Other 2 Sonos devices had negligible usage.
Google Home used 7%, all at 3am
My Google Pixel used 2% throughout the day.
That's 87% of our data usage, though I don't know the breakdown of up/download data usage.
I'm going to be taking a much closer look at my work laptop.
The culprit appears to be the zscaler app that was pushed to my work laptop. The date my usage started to go up corresponds to right around the time zscaler was installed. At the time, I didn't know what it was, so I never gave it my corporate password, so it's just been sitting there waiting to be activated. I've made no other changes to this computer in months. It's an older laptop that is in the process of being replaced this week, so I just turned off the wifi, and my data usage is back to normal for the past 2 days. I only use that laptop for work-related stuff, so there's zero chance I went to any questionable sites or downloaded anything suspicious.
I asked my manager if I could get compensation for potentially going over my data limit this month. Surprise, surprise - no.
Thanks to all who chimed in and gave advice. It was a good learning experience.

2020.08.18 04:08 Academic_Run_8953 Converting RBR50V2 router to RBS50 Satellite
Has anyone successfully converted a RBR50V2 to a satellite?
I already have an Orbi RBR50V2 with one RBS50 satellite. I wanted to add an extra satellite. Seeing some of the other posts on converting an RBR50 to RBS50, I bought RBR50V2 from ebay as the satellite is not available anywhere and resellers are charging a ton.
I did all of the steps here: https://www.reddit.com/HomeNetworking/comments/e53qp6/convert_orbi_rbr50_router_to_orbi_rbs50_satellite/fpophf7/
Updating the model id and model name. Uploading firmware, rebooting etc. The router wouldn't boot fully and I couldn't telnet to 192.168.1.1
I got a serial to ttl connector since I couldn't telnet or connect to the router and updated the model id and model name back to router's values and was able to recover the router.
I tried changing the router to a satellite again and it still wouldn't boot. I am able to load the firmware using tftpboot but it is still not booting. I see the below error.
No filesystem could mount root, tried: ext3 ext2 ext4 squashfs msdos hfsplus hfs xfs
I think the issue is that I need to load the firmware in the right location and delete the data from the previous block writes. If anyone has successfully converted a RBR50V2 specifically to a satellite, help please.

2020.08.17 08:04 Chewyjump Alternative options for per device bandwidth monitor
I would like to track down devices using excess bandwidth since we've been having issues with network slow downs more recently and it becomes difficult when we have ~30 devices connected to the network. Orbi doesn't really have any dedicated way to do this so I'm wondering what some of you have done to get around this? Some of the options I'm considering:
- Get a cheapo router between the modem and Orbis that supports DD WRT which I've used in the past to view basic stats on per-device usage.
- Swap to another mesh system such as Synology which seems to have better UI / feature set over Orbi with traffic control included
- Potentially configure my DS218+ NAS to monitor per device traffic but would need to look into this further. I'm only using this as a data backup device.

2020.08.09 22:17 havoc1970 Success converted from RBR40 to RBS40
I have a RBR50 system and picked up a spare RBR40 for free.... Using some of the other posts specific to the RBR50, I was able to pretty easily update the RBR40 into an RBS40 without needing to do a ton of complicated stuff. You only need the current RBS40 Firmware .img file from Netgear download and also a Telnet client. (I suggest PuTTY
- Open the Orbi Web Interface in your browser (example http://192.168.0.1 )
- Navigate to the Debug Page (example http://192.168.0.1/debug.htm [note: not .html])
- Enable the Telnet Interface by checking the box.
- Open PuTTY - Connect to TELNET (note: not SSH which is default) to host 192.168.0.1
- Type artmtd -r board_data this was 1204 for my RBR40... 1104 I think means an RBR running major version 1.X.X.X firmware, 1004 means RBR40 running version 0.X.X.X firmware. The goal here is to change this to YY05 so if you show 1004, then you want to change to 1005, 1104 you want to change to 1105 and 1204 you want to change to 1205. The '05' is the part that means RBS vs RBR.
- Now, you will actually WRITE the new value.... using the correct number for your system... type artmtd -w board_data 1205 (replace the 1205 with the correct value for your device)
- Similar process but with the model_id.... type artmtd -r board_model_id it should say 'RBR40'
- Now write the new value artmtd -w board_model_id RBS40
- Reboot the router
- When you reconnect via web browser, you will get the Satellite web interface.
- Go to the Firmware update page, choose manual update
- Upload the current Netgear RBS40 firmware .img file.
- Start the update, wait, Voila!

Due to its strength as well as the quick production process, wooden pallets have been commonplace for almost three decades. However, they have many drawbacks, such as lower resistance, low moisture absorption, and quick break-off. This has resulted in the growing demand for vertical plastic pallets. Logistics and shipping companies are increasingly preferring plastic pallets because of their advantages, such as being lightweight and eco-friendly. The growing awareness of the need to reduce carbon footprint is also driving the demand for plastic pallets. Plastic pallets made of HDPE are witnessing heightened adoption in the automotive, shipping, and food and beverage industries due to their chemical and weather resistance. Thus, the rising demand for plastic pallets is expected to influence the market positively. Key Market Players
